Painter. Illustrator. Mess-maker.

A fluctuation between intuition and intent, my painting practice explores different approaches to mark-making from egg tempura and natural pigments to collage and embroidery. Inspired by literature from modern philosophy to ancient mythology, I create visual narratives that feel familiar yet ambiguous. I use surrealism to evoke a sense of tethered disorientation. My work considers temporality and permanence, using the return to nature as a soft place to land amidst a fractured landscape.

Based in both New Orleans and New York, Emily (Em) is currently a MFA candidate for Art Practice, a low-residency program at the School of the Visual Art in NYC.
